Saint-Petersburg was established by Peter the Great in 1703 and for over 200 years the city was the capitol of the Russian Empire. St. Petersburg with 5 million citizens still remains a cultural center of Russia. It is famous due to its world-known museums (Hermitage, Russian paintings museum, etc.) and theatres (e.g. Mariinsky Opera/Kirov Ballet), numerous palaces, cathedrals and churches, monuments and memorials. The unique beauty of St. Petersburg is created by numerous bridges over many rivers and channels crossing the city and magnificent classic architectural ensembles. One can easily reach marvelous Russian tsar residences with palaces and parks in the vicinity of the city - in Peterhof, Pushkin/Tzarskoje Selo, Pavlovsk, Oranienbaum, Gatchina and other suburbs.

A half of one day will include an excursion to St. Petersburg (a bus tour over the historical center and a visit to the Hermitage). Because of the comfortable location of Znamenka close to Peterhof, excursions to its parks and palaces can be organized during longer lunch breaks.

Additional excursions (in particular for accompanying persons) can be organized by the LOC, BUT it should be settled in advance. So, please indicate in the Accommodation form any additional excursions you would like to have.

Possible local and regional tours:

- Tour to Pushkin (Tsarskoe selo) visit of the palace of Catherine the Great.

- Excursion to Russian paintings museum.

- Day-long tour to Great Novgorod, visiting the Sofiysky cathedral (XI century),

the Kremlin, the Granovity palace (Hall of Facets), the Yur'ev cloister.

- Visits to St. Petersburg State University, Main Astronomical (Pulkovo)

- Tour to Peterhof. The major part of fountains is located in Lower Park
and some of them are in Upper Gardens. The Lower Park is open
from 9:00 till 20:00 (till 21:00 on Saturdays and Sundays).
The fountains work from 11:00 till 17:00 (till 18:00 on
Saturdays and Sundays). In this time the entrance in the Lower Park
is payable (300 Rubl.). There are 18 different museums in Peterhof.
A half of them is located in the Lower Park and a half outside of it.
The museums usually open from 10:00 till 18:00.
Please take into account that:
- you can walk to Lower Park on the Lower Road via park Aleksandria
(the distance between Znamenka and Peterhof is about 3 km);
- there is a piers in the Lower Park and using high-speed boat "Meteor"
you can reach the center of St. Petersburg (piers "Hermitage") for 40 min.

- Tour to Kronstadt (Naval capital of Russia; "mini-Amsterdam"). The ferry departs
from the piers in Lomonosov at 12:00, 15:00, 17:00, 20:00 and from the piers
in Kronstadt at 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 21:30 (the price of the ticket is 20 Rubl.).

- Tour to Lomonosov (former Oranienbaum) with walk over the park (the entrance
ticket price is 30 Rubl.) and visit to palaces of Peter III, Chinese, etc.
You can take bus 300 or train.

- Tour to Tsarskoe Selo (Pushkin) with visit to Amber room. You can take train or taxi.

- Boat voyage along the St. Petersburg rivers and channels.
In particular, it is possible to go on a tour "A romantic night
on the Neva watching bridges go up" from 1:30 till 3:00.
