Claudia M. Raiteri (INAF, Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino, Italy):

Yesterday our esteemed colleague Valeri Larionov passed away. It is difficult to find the words to express our sadness and desolation. Valeri has been a pillar of the WEBT for more than 20 years. We will miss both the friend and the scientist so much.

Massimo Villata (INAF, Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino, Italy):

Although I was aware of Valeri's critical condition, I was left speechless and with a sense of very profound sadness. Together with Svetlana we will send a message to the WEBT to remember him. Feel free (you or anyone else in Valeri's group) to respond with your own thoughts if you wish. I take this opportunity to extend my deepest condolences to all of you in the group, to the family and to those who loved him. He was a great man and a wonderful friend. We will miss him so much.

The people of the Roma Astronomical Observatory are deeply saddened by the loss of Valeri who largely contributed to setting up the instrumentation of our Observatory at Campo Imperatore, giving also a fundamental contribution to our observational and scientific activity. We all remember Valeri as a true friend. Please convey our sincere condolences to all his family and his colleagues.
